PlayStation.com Continues to Evolve

November 20th, 2008 by Susan Panico

Early next week, we’ll be integrating additional community features into PlayStation.com. We are excited to roll-out the first phase, which includes the ability to sign-in to PlayStation.com and, soon after, PlayStation.Blog with your PlayStation Network ID. Of course, your PlayStation Network ID gets you access to all the good things on the PLAYSTATION 3 and PSP, including games, movies and TV shows on the PlayStation Store, online gaming, and, soon to come for PS3, PlayStation Home.

Game Detail Page

In addition, we are making enhancements to the gamer profile features. Your profile will include your PSN online ID, your avatar, and a short “about me” section. You’ll also be able to display your friends list and, on the game detail pages, you’ll be able to include ratings and reviews for all of your favorite games. These features were created so that you can make new friends, learn new tricks and tips, talk trash, offer advice, console the defeated, praise the winners, and more.

If you have an Underground account on PlayStation.com and haven’t already merged it with your PlayStation Network ID, click here to do so. If you don’t have an Underground account but would like to create a PlayStation Network account to participate in the new features on PlayStation.com, click here.

We decided to dissolve the PlayStation Underground program in order to provide more PlayStation fans with a glimpse into the PlayStation Network world via the web. We hope you enjoy this next step in the evolution of PlayStation.com.

Stay tuned; before this year is over we’ll have more enhancements for your gamer profile.

New Game Plus allows you to start a new supercharged playthrough of BioShock. Ready for this? You begin the game with any weapons, abilities, and inventory that you collected during a previous playthrough. Always wish you could obliterate Dr. Steinman with your uber grenade launcher? Now you can!

BioShock DLC BioShock DLC

Challenge Rooms are another beast altogether. These are puzzle rooms where the objective is to rescue a Little Sister. Sounds easy enough, right? Dead wrong! Whether it’s fighting a Big Daddy without any weapons or surviving room after room of Splicers, Challenge Rooms require equal amounts brain and brawn in order to succeed.

The whole BioShock downloadable content team is proud to bring this new content to the fans that made and continue to make BioShock a huge success. We hope that you enjoy playing it as much as we did making it.

Fabullo è in Florida

November 19th, 2008 by Blog di Beppe Grillo

Fabullo.jpg

LittleBigChallenge - Celebrating PS3’s 2nd Anniversary

November 19th, 2008 by Mark Valledor

As you might have heard or read, the Anniversary of the launch of the PlayStation 3 just passed! To celebrate we are re-kicking off our LittleBigChallenges with an official in-game prize…a super cool download for LBC winners…

A download so rare, that it can only be won or earned through LittleBigChallenges…..The LittleBigPlanet Prize Crown.

LBP Crown

(Cue…ooooo’s and ahhhh’s.)

Now finally LBP fans (in the US) get a chance to put their creative and game design skills to compete for the Prize Crown with our next LittleBigChallenge: Happy Birthday PS3! We are challenging you to create an original LittleBigPlanet level celebrating the PLAYSTATION 3 second anniversary. This is how it works-

1. Create an original LittleBigPlanet level celebrating the PLAYSTATION 3 second anniversary.

2. You must name your Level using this format. “LBC1 -< YourLevelNameHere >”.

3. Publish your Level to the LittleBigPlanet online server at any time up until 11:59am PST December 9, 2008 when the contest closes.

4. Send an e-mail submission to community_support@playstation.sony.com and indicate your level name (LBC1 - < YourLevelNameHere >) in the subject line. Include your PlayStation Network ID along with the name of your Level in your e-mail submission.

Once this is done, your Level will be judged by the LittleBigPlanet Community. Community members will be able to vote on multiple Levels by adding a “Heart” to each one they like. They may only add one Heart to any particular Level. The top five qualifying Levels with the most hearts that
meet the entry requirements as stated in the official rules will be selected as the winners.

So start creating your level today! Good luck to all of you. You might be one of the talented few to sport a LBP Prize Crown online!

Please go the LittleBigPlanet News Site for all the Challenge details and official rules and be sure to publicize and promote your level by creating a Workshop and letting the community know about your level on our Forums.

Check back on 12/11 when we announce the winners. Good Luck…and we look forward to playing your levels.

Far Oer, Danimarca, il massacro delle balene

November 18th, 2008 by Blog di Beppe Grillo

Feroe_Danimarca_1.jpg

Diffondi l'iniziativa

Happy Birthday, PS3!

November 18th, 2008 by John Koller

November 17 is a special date for us at SCEA because, as many of you fans know, it’s when we launched PLAYSTATION 3. Two years ago today, we delivered our next-generation console, providing consumers with a gaming and home entertainment system unlike anything in the market – the power of the Cell Broadband Engine, out-of-the-box HDMI support for 1080p resolution, and a Blu-ray drive for high-definition movies and expansive games. The PS3’s launch was also when the Resistance franchise was born, and the original title’s success has spawned a blockbuster sequel with Resistance 2 and a unique PSP installment with the upcoming Resistance: Retribution.

PS3 Anniversary Card

But that’s just what we started with, and PS3 has come a long way since November 17, 2006. If you stood in line the night before launch, the PS3 that you took out of the box when you got home isn’t the same system that it is today. We’ve added new features and enhancements that you all have asked for, such as Trophies, XMB access in-game, Remote Play with PSP, DLNA Media Server capability, and BD-Live support, to name just a few. Along the way, we became the first gaming system to be recognized by Guinness World Records for Folding@Home and, because of the strong PS3 install base, helped Blu-ray win the format war.

PlayStation Network has truly hit its stride with unique downloadable games and a video delivery service featuring movies, TV shows, and original programming that you can watch in HD with your PS3, or bring with you on your PSP. And with 14 million active accounts and 273 million pieces of content downloaded, we know that you’re thirsting for this digital entertainment.

Of course, most important to all of you is the game library, and we’ve seen exclusive titles launch that showcase the PS3’s capabilities, from Metal Gear Solid IV: Guns of the Patriots, which takes full advantage of Blu-ray’s massive 50GB capacity to deliver the best installment in the storied franchise, to LittleBigPlanet, whose infectious charm and user-generated content make it a genre-defying experience. There’s something for every type of gamer on PS3, and the efforts of SCE’s first-party development studios (the industry’s largest ) along with our third-party partners will continue to deliver knock-out titles.

Thanks to all of you, PS3’s momentum is stronger than ever. There are nearly 17 million PS3 systems around the world, and in the United States, PS3 hardware sales are up nearly 100 percent from where we were at this time last year. Software sales have tripled from a year ago. Yes, we’re proud about everything we’ve accomplished, and we’re even more psyched about where we’re going with our holiday software lineup (our best to date) and the new Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune PLAYSTATION 3 Bundle, which features a 160GB PS3 and is available now.

We wouldn’t be where we are today without your continued support and all of the feedback you’ve provided here on this blog. We don’t have a crystal ball, but we know that you can look forward to many great games and PS3 enhancements over the next 12 months, starting with the upcoming launch of PlayStation Home’s open beta, which will bring the PS3 community closer together. Then, just around the corner, you’ll have Killzone 2, inFAMOUS, and tons more. So please join me in wishing a happy second birthday to PS3!

And We’re Back

November 17th, 2008 by Jeff Rubenstein

Here it is, the redesign of PlayStation.Blog. In addition to being more attractive, we feel that readers will find more of the PlayStation information you’re looking for with less of that tedious “looking.” Please click around, search for older posts through our new category drop down menus, and indulge with the new, super-convenient “All Posts” button. If something doesn’t work, please let us know.

Over the new few hours/days we’ll be working on sorting/organizing some of the categories, so keep that in mind.

So now it’s time for us to kick back (feet on the desk) and rest on our laurels until the end of the yea- oh wait. We’ve got more good things planned (stuff you’ve been specifically asking for) to come, and rather soon. We’ll keep you posted.

OK, back to your regularly scheduled posting.
